Yumi Sakugawa is a comic artist based in California. While I'm not super familiar with her work, she was born in Orange, a place not far from my home town of Huntington Beach. A few weeks ago I bought my first painting from artist Huey Lightbody. Lightobdy refers to his work as "brutalist", evident at first glance with untamed brushstrokes, elements of industrial design, and a general hardness in texture.
